Equipment for receiving liquefied natural gas to Ukraine will put foreign companies

U.S. company Excelerate Energy and Spanish Enagas expressed interest in construction of a terminal for receiving liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Ukrainian port of Yuzhny. These companies are not willing to invest in the project, but have the ability to provide the necessary equipment.

In particular, the Excelerate LNG storage vessel has 8 terminals and another one is being built. The company has agreed to provide the Ukrainian side one of the floating terminal. With this technique the gas will begin in 2012.


In turn, the company Enagas, to offer the necessary equipment for the construction of the terminal. The company currently owns 3-like objects in Cartagena Huelva and Barcelona. The company's revenues Enagas total 1.2 billion euros a year.

The remaining members of the consortium must decide by November, when the construction will be started. Even last month terminal project has been approved. Its capacity for the year will be 10 billion cubic meters. In this project, the state's share is 25%, the rest will be provided by private companies. The cost of construction is estimated at 846 million U.S. dollars. It is expected that at the end of 2015 the project will be put into operation.

By importing LNG Ukraine expects to significantly reduce dependence on Russian gas purchases. 44.8 billion cubic meters of gas was purchased in the country of Russia in 2011.

Among the companies that offered their services as a member of an LNG project in the Southern, Egagas and Turkish Botas. However, corporations from Italy and Germany, question the need for this project.
