The European Commission has justified the operation of nuclear power plants in Europe

In the EU, the status of all nuclear power plants at a high level, but it needs improvement.
National security agencies have concluded that the closure of nuclear power plants in the EU would be unjustified. Günther Oettinger, EU Energy Commissioner noted that the overall situation with the nuclear plants is satisfactory, but complacency.


Only fifteen of the 27 EU countries located 145 nuclear reactors. All reactors were subjected to stress tests. They had to find out the stability of nuclear power plants to floods and earthquakes. According to estimates by the European Commission, the standards currently define risk for earthquakes on 54 reactors are not properly applied, and for flooding - for 62 reactors. In addition, the need to upgrade or install equipment, assesses the likelihood of earthquakes in 121 reactor.

European countries following the accident at the Japanese plant "Fukushima-1" started checking their plants, which occurred in March 2011 year. It was the massive disaster since Chernobyl. After this, the German government decided to abandon nuclear power by 2022 and to stop the 17 reactors. Switzerland will close all of its nuclear power plants to 2034g. At the same time, countries in Asia, including India and China, on the contrary, nuclear energy develop.
